Rhea Maheshwari is an artist based in between Auckland and Mumbai whose work weaves together the sacred and the contemporary, the seen and the unseen, the individual and the cosmic. Drawing from the visual languages of Indian miniature painting, gestural abstraction and Raga theory, she reinterprets traditional systems of knowledge through a modern painterly lens, transforming them into meditative compositions of color, geometry, and symbol.
Her recent body of work explores the relationship between sound, space, and emotion—each painting conceived as a visual Raaga that evokes a specific rasa (essence or mood). Through layered surfaces, shifting light, and rhythmic structures, she constructs contemplative environments where time feels suspended and the self becomes porous. Her paintings function as thresholds between worlds—architectural, elemental, and spiritual—inviting viewers into a dialogue between inner and outer landscapes.
Her work reflects an ongoing inquiry into how ancient systems of harmony can be reimagined in contemporary life, bridging ritual and modernity in a search for balance, resonance, and transcendence
